Based on the fundamental roadmap for Lean software development, as developed by Mary and Tom Poppendieck:
Implement Lean Across an Entire Value Stream and the Complete Product - focus on the overall project and organisation, optimizing everything as a whole.
Restructure the Measurements - rather than focusing on ticking boxes and failing code that doesn’t work, you should focus on the overall business value, which is the reason the IT department exists in the first place.
Reduce the Cost of Crossing Boundaries - through looking at the big picture, you’ll be able to see how many different systems and boundaries the project may cross into, so you need to have an effective mechanism for allowing this to happen.

While I was working with one of my clients a few years a go, I was given a book to read by the CEO. "The Speed of Trust". I read the book with a healthy dose of scepticism having read many management books in the past. But this book resonated with the core principles of Agile for me.
