In 2012 MemberWise, the independent professional networking group, consulted with over 3,000 membership organisations and associations to understand how the sector harnesses the power of the web to drive membership value and growth. It is the biggest survey of this type that I am aware of.
The results contained within the survey make for compelling reading. I was amazed at a number of the findings and intrigued about the wider implications. When the results are published later this month you can expect a number of blogs from me.
In the meantime, IndigoBlue is delighted to be sponsors of the report and is partnering with MemberWise to host a launch event at the RSA on 12th February. Demand for this event has been extremely high and only a few places remain.

In late 2012 the MemberWise Network consulted with over 3,000 membership and associations to understand how the membership sector harnesses the power of the web to drive membership value and growth, and its plans for the future. The results contained within this survey make for compelling reading and are both unique and statistically significant.
Sponsors of the report, IndigoBlue, and the MemberWise Network held an evening seminar dedicated to the launch of the survey report. This free event provided unique insights into current and proposed usage of the web in driving online member value. Richard Gott of MemberWise presented the report with insight provided by IndigoBlue’s Managing Director, Rob Smith.
Where are the savings that IT can make for non-for-profit organisations?
This question has been prompted firstly by the recent Government Charity Report and secondly by a meeting we had recently with a consultant on behalf of a cross-sector organisation promoting the UK's digitally capability (which quotes NCVO identifying ICT as the biggest skill-gap in the charity sector).

Congratulations to the YHA, which has recently been recently been awarded a WebAward by the Web Marketing Association. The implementation of the site is the final piece of a significant business change programme aimed at providing better service to customers.
IndigoBlue's Managing Director Rob Smith presented a keynote session at MemberWise's conference in October.
Based on current and recent work across the membership sector, Rob provided an insight into how organisations should be using the web to increase membership value, reduce costs and utimiately to increase membership.
Rob identified the key digital trends that are most important to membership organisations. He then drew out how these trends, together with the organisation's business strategy, inputs into the digital strategy to provide a roadmap for the organisation's approach to the web and social media.

Your enterprise architecture needs to support business agility to ensure your competitive position in today's market. Building on some of the themes from my last blog post on IT platforms and business agility, enterprise architecture is a cornerstone of your organisation's ability to run its business, react to market changes and implement change.
Poor IT systems can be a serious impediment to business agility. I've seen many companies hamstrung by IT systems that don't interface to other systems and are difficult to enhance with new features.
So, what should you look for in your IT Platforms to enable business agility?
Picking up a thread from my last blog post, I thought it would be useful to discuss self service. Self service is both a win-win - it provides better service at lower cost - and a challenge - implementing wide-ranging self service has its complexities. I've talk on a number of occasions about the advantages of self service. In this post, I'll focus more on the challenges.
Three of Real Story Group's Technology Predictions for 2012 particularly caught my eye: big data meets web marketing; CRM and CMS on collision course; and new job titles emerge.

The open source CMS Drupal is being adopted by more and more NFP organisations. I recently did a comparison of the charities and membership organisations using Drupal and two of the more popular commercial CMSs. I was surprised by the level of market penetration by Drupal. I was able to find dozens of sites that use Drupal. When I tried the same for the two commercial CMSs, I had great trouble finding more than a handful.
