Agile in Our Office

06 OCT 2010 | Posted in agile practices | Author Ross Jackson

As you’d expect, we’re proud practitioners of Agile both with our clients and in our own daily processes. People who’ve come to visit us have remarked on how they can see how we put our words into practice with our own internal projects, as well as with clients.

Effective Project Management

Agile - effective scalable project and programme management

  • Delivering projects in short, controlled capital increments
  • Balancing ability to be responsive to change with predictive project and programme planning
  • Scalable to the largest projects in the world

Scaling Agile to large projects demands balance between the ability to be responsive to change with an absolute business requirement for certainty requiring elements of predictive programme management and control.

Obviously we're big fans and proponents of Agile in our projects, but we also strive to operate in an Agile manner in every aspect of our business lives - and as you'll have seen from some of our previous posts, also sometimes in our non-working lives, too!

So we're very proud of the fact that our own MD is especially Agile when it comes to arranging his daily schedule. He certainly has a lot of meetings, and fills a lot of his day with important activities; but at the heart of his routine is the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

It's that time of year again when the kids are going back to school. Not, one might think, an automatic choice for a post on an agile blog, but we've come across plenty of instances whilst the holidays have been on where we've had to act in an Agile manner.

Changes in the weather, changes of mind as to what is the most fun attraction to visit during a particular day, and even changes of mood have all contributed to our having to adapt to updated requirements whilst running the complicated project of keeping the kids happy in the holidays.

Putting Our Customers First

  • Short, incremental cycles
  • Clearly defined, measurable business objectives
  • Regular feedback
  • Continuous learning and improvement

We utilise an incremental, Agile approach to all of our work, building on the value and understanding from successive increments. In this way change is driven by you, our customer, rather than prescribed at the outset and imposed. Importantly, in this way, self sufficiency is often achieved significantly earlier than initially anticipated.

Enabling Business Change

  • Agile is the future for development and management projects
  • Agile is adaptable and robust in all situations
  • Agile minimises your risk

We believe that all organisations can benefit from Agile, but there is no single Agile approach that is applicable to all organisations. We therefore help organisations to improve their project management processes within the constraints of the prevailing context.
